the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition

This is the fourth year that
the Greek National Rounds are going to be organised in Greece.
This year two teams from Greece will be competing in
the National Rounds. The winner, the National Champion, shall represent Greece
in the International Rounds, which will take place in Washington D.C.
This year the Greek National Rounds shall be hosted by
the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens. The Rounds will take place on 26
February 2011 at the Room "Evropi" of Nomiki Bibliothiki Publishers
(Mavromichali 23, Athens).
The Competition &
the Greek National
Rounds ^
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is organised every year by the International Law Students Association in Washington, D.C., USA and is supported by the American Society of International Law and the law firm White & Case. It was organised for the first time in 1960 at Harvard University under the name International Law Moot Court. Later it was renamed honouring Philip C. Jessup, esteemed diplomat and scholar, who served as a Judge at the International Court of Justice from 1961 until 1970.
Nowadays, it is the biggest and most important international law competition for students, in which the biggest and most esteemed universities participate.
Participation in the competition requires the submission of two written memorials to ILSA and oral argument before three-judges panels who consist of international law professors and practitioners. including the former President of the ICJ, Dame Rosalyn Higgins and other Judges, such as Brunno Simma, Hisashi Owada and others such as Professor James Crawford, James Carter, former ASIL President and many others. The International Rounds take place in Washington, D.C., USA and more than 500 teams from more than 90 States Participate.
Until 2007 the Greek National Rounds were organised directly by ILSA and took place in Washington, D.C., USA before the international rounds. Since 2008 they have been organised in Greece with the co-operation of the participating teams and ILSA (Athens). Professors of Greek and foreign Universities along with members of the Special Legal Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have sit as Judges for the Greek National Rounds.
The International Law Students Association is a non-profit association of students and lawyers who are dedicated to the promotion of international law. ILSA provides opportunities to students for study, research, and career networking in international and transnational law. The organization’s activities include academic conferences, publications, global coordination of student organizations, and the administration of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. (more...) The local ILSA Chapter for Athens is ILSA Athens which shares the same values and purposes with ILSA.
